Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange info between a web server and a client. As the data exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a 3rd party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of controlling a web hosting account. The commands that could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the possibilities are limited as you won't have root access to the server, so you can only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They're all actions which are carried out in the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall be able to install server-side software or to restart the server or just a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Website Hosting
If the website hosting plan that you’ve selected throughout the signup process offers SSH access by default, you shall be able to activate this function with just a mouse click from your Hepsia Control Panel. If you've selected a different package, the SSH access function may be included using the Upgrades menu and it'll become available at once. The information you need to connect will be conveniently listed in the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same place and you shall be able to modify it anytime. All commands which are permitted are listed inside the Help articles which we have prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax that you have to use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to receive SSH access to it with only a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with all accounts. If your package doesn't support this feature by default, you shall be able to add it without difficulty through the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you will find the info you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter may be updated at any time, if needed. These login credentials are also needed if you would like to upload files via a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we provide you with. A comprehensive list of the commands you can carry out shall give you a better idea of what tasks you could perform within your account and each one is accompanied by a couple of examples of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
The VPS server offers we offer provide SSH access by default, not as an additional upgrade or a function that you have to enable. The minute your new server is ready, you will be able to connect and start working on your content through the login details that you've entered through the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials will be sent to you via e mail too. Since your VPS will be isolated from the others on the physical web server, there are no limitations regarding what you can or cannot do through SSH. You are able to download, set up and manage any piece of software that will run on a Linux web server, reboot the entire server or simply a certain software component, and work with files, folders and databases without any restrictions. All you will need for this is a console or an SSH client on your end.
